Feisty's Favorites | January Edition

Hello everyone!

I'm currently sitting in a cute coffee shop in Asheville, North Carolina with Blaine and I'm excited to bring you another blog post. Y'all, I vowed to do one blog post a week and that is exactly what I've done so far this year. I'm pretty proud of myself.

As the month is ending, I wanted to highlight some of my favorite things from the month. I've seen people do this in videos as well as blog posts. I think it is a great way to look back at your experiences and give recommendations for those looking for something new.

This month's favorites is basically three categories: books, clothes, and music.  Let's begin!

Queer Novels

One of my goals of 2018 was to read as much as I can. Reading is something that clears my mind of stress, as well as teaches me about cool stories and experiences. My ultimate goal for the year is to read 25 books in the entire year, which is basically two books a month. I've hit that goal this month with two very awesome novels:

Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman

Dancers of the Dance by Andrew Holleran.

These novels are definitely very different, but both showcase love stories between men that are beautiful, complicated, and ultimately, heartbreaking. I would definitely suggest them both, but be ready to shed a tear or two.

P.S. I have seen the movie Call Me By Your Name twice and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. Some of my favorite parts: the costumes, Timothee Chamalet, Michael Stuhlberg, and the entire soundtrack. And if you were wondering, yes, I cried alot.

New Fashion Finds

Over the last year or so, I've been trying my best to keep my clothes as minimalistic as possible. Basically this just means that I have a small amount of basic clothing that I wear in different variations each day. These clothes include basic tees, jeans, monochromatic shoes, and more. After a while, you might notice that I practically wear the same outfit every day, but honestly, it keeps an aspect of my life a little simpler.

Recently, I've needed a new pair of jeans and I found some that I really liked! I'm particularly picky with jeans because I like mine super skinny. A lot of the denim you'll see in stores are called "skinny," but for some reason, most of the time, they aren't skinny enough for me.

So, I went on a hunt recently and found a pair at PacSun that I love. They were skinny enough and not too expensive. Plus, there was a BOGO deal, and I got a discounted pair of black joggers with them.

Check out the jeans here.

 The Baker!

The Baker!

Another wearable find that I've gotten recently was a new pair of glasses! I only get new glasses every few years because they are pricey. This time around, I wanted to try something new that I've been intrigued by for a while: Warby Parker! I've worn glasses since I was in 1st grade, and I know for a fact that Warby Parker's prices are so so much cheaper (and more stylish) than a lot of brands.

When I was in Atlanta with Blaine, we stopped by the Warby Parker store in Westside Provisions and I finally got to try on some of their glasses. You've probably heard of their "try on at home" program where they'll send you glasses and then you send it back after picking which ones you like. However, honestly, I love the in-store experience of trying on glasses.

It was a toss up between the Blaire and the Baker, but I decided to go with the Baker! I love the color and the shape of them. They cost $95 dollars normally, but mine were $125 because I needed some fancier lenses because I have a strong prescription. None the less, this process was much simpler and less expensive than others glasses that I've gotten in the past.

Latest Music Obsessions

I've been in the car a lot recently, which has given me a chance to listen and discover some great music! Warning: basically all I listen to is show tunes and pop music!

In the last month, my favorites include...

  • I've recently gone on a show tunes kick, jamming to songs from musicals I might never see. These include Legally Blonde, Newsies, Great Comet, and  Next To Normal.
  • After my obsession with Call Me By Your Name, I've fallen in love with Sufjan Stevens songs in the film.
  • TROYE SIVAN. Enough said.
  • Blaine and I watched Demi Lovato's documentary Simply Complicated, which was so cool because it gave an inside look at a Disney star I practically grew up with and some of the struggles and addictions that she had and how it has impacted her music. Because of this, I've grown to really enjoy her latest album "Tell Me You Love Me."

These are just a few of my favorites that I've recently put in my 18 in 2018 playlist series, which is a new thing I'm doing to collect my favorite songs from the year. Each week, I create a playlist with 18 songs that I loved in the week.

You can listen to my latest playlist here.

So, whether it is music, books, or fashion, I've really been focusing on surrounding my eyes, ears, and brain with things that make me happy. Self care has been a focus this year and I definitely think I've been treating myself a little better than years past.

What are your favorites of the year thus far?

Let me know on social media and the comments below. Do they include anything I mentioned? Let me know, friends!

LOVE YOU ALL! Go do something you love.
