#MusicMonday: 4 New Female Pop Albums I Love
I'm still in NYC working and exploring, and I wanted to give y'all an inside look at what's playing on my headphones while I'm bopping to work and around the city. Every Monday, I'm going to write a quick post and make a Spotify playlist with some of my favorite songs at the moment.
This week, it's all about the ladies - pop music ladies that is. I've been jamming to a bunch of great albums and I wanted to share them today.
Lorde - Melodrama
FAVORITES: Supercut, The Lourve, Homemade Dynamite
I'm sure you've heard all about this album - because LORDE IS BACK! Her sound is just so cool - I feel like she's cooler than I could ever be. Her lyrics are beautiful and it's really cool because she seems to reference NYC alot. Definitely a great album! Plus, she's my age???? Woah.
Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa
FAVORITES: New Rules, Be The One, Last Dance, No Goodbyes
Now, Dua Lipa is someone that I think I saw once or twice on my Discover Weekly playlists, but I didn't really know much about her. I decided to give this album a listen, and DANG- it's so good. It's got some really sweet dance beats and she's got a powerful voice. Definitely someone I'm excited to see grow and create new music.
Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom
FAVORITES: Sorry, Strangers, Walls Could Talk
Halsey is interesting because from social media, she's always seemed to have a lot of haters and negativity surrounding her. However, her feature in Closer (by the Chainsmokers) as well as some of her other songs has made her an instant star.
I wanted to give her a new album a listen, and I really like it! It's got lots of cool electronic sounds and deep vocal distortion, and Strangers is particularly great because it's all about bisexuality, which is rarely talked about in the media + music.
Betty Who - The Valley
Favorites: I Love You Always Forever, Wanna Be, Beautiful
Betty Who is killing it this month! This album came out a few months ago, but I've been listening to it because our girl Betty has been performing at tons of Pride events and loving it. She seems super sweet and she's definitely is an advocate for the LGBT community.
She has a Superfruit feature on here which I love (cannot wait for their music btw) as well as a beautiful cover of I Love You Always Forever.
Now, some of you might be thinking what I'm thinking... where's Katy Perry's album?
Well, I expected Katy Perry's new album to be on here too. However, it isn't an album that I've completely loved. As a lover of pop music, of course I'm going to continue to listen to it, but I wouldn't say I love the whole album. I've put some of my favorite songs from it in the playlist.
I did think her 72+ hour livestream was a really cool PR move, and she seems to be focused on vulnerability, which is important.
You can check out these songs and other songs I'm digging this week on my latest #MusicMonday playlist:
